Iowa City Police Investigate Muscatine Avenue Robbery

Police are looking for a suspect who reportedly robbed a woman Wednesday night as she was making a deposit at Hills Bank on Muscatine Avenue.

Iowa City police are asking the community for tips to help find a man who stole a woman's money bag as she was in her vehicle near the night drop box at Hills Bank last night.

According to a police news release, at 8:29 p.m. officers responded to 2621 Muscatine Avenue for the report of the robbery. The woman told police that she had been in her vehicle depositing a money bag at the Hills Bank drop box, when the man ran up to her car window and grabbed her wrist. She said the man demanded that he give her the money, and when she complied, he fled eastbound from the scene. The woman said she was unharmed and didn't see the man display a weapon.

The man was described as being a black male in his mid-20s, about 5-foot-10 and weighing 170 pounds. He had a light complexion and freckles, and wore a gray ski mask with the area around the eyes visible, blue jeans, a dark hooded sweatshirt and tennis shoes.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of this man. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in confidence and anonymity is assured. The identity of the caller does not have to be revealed to receive the reward.
