Two Iowa City men on Monday were arrested in connection with a home invasion burglary and assault.

Police arrested and charged Morgan Powell, 20, and Albert Black, 19, both of 2023 Taylor Drive for first-degree burglary, a felony, after evidence allegedly indicated they took part in a failed burglary.

Pollice say that Black and Powell and one other assailant entered in a residence at 12:46 p.m. at the 300 BLOCK of E. Burlington Street with the intent to commit a theft. They were discovered by the male resident of the apartment who attempted to force them to leave, when the man was hit by one of the three alleged burglars in the nose, causing it to bleed. The three then fled, according to the criminal complaint, managing to take an Xbox gaming system with them. The Xbox was found stashed near the apartment.

Powell allegedly left his bag and cell phone in the man's apartment, according to the criminal complaint. Black, after his arrest, allegedly admitted to being in the apartment and described the incident. The male victim also reportedly gave a positive identification of Black.

Arrest records show a third individual was arrested in connection with the burglary but that person is a juvenile.

Police arrested an Iowa City man Monday and charged him with domestic abuse without intent causing injury and child endangerment with no injury, both misdemeanors, after he allegedly punched his girlfriend while she was holding a baby.

Abidikadir Abdi, 21, of 2401 Highway 6 E, Iowa City was charged with the crimes after they responded to his apartment at the above adress for a report by a woman claiming she had been beaten up by her boyfriend. The woman told the arriving officer that Abdi had punched her in the eye while she was holding her five-month-old infant, causing her to drop the baby on the floor. Abdi allegedly acknowledged that the infant was dropped during the dispute. The woman had a red eye, according to the criminal complaint, but the baby appeared unharmed.

An Iowa City homeless man who lives under the Gilbert Street bridge was charged with domestic abuse without intent causing injury after officers said he hit his female companion who lives with him under the bridge.

An officer wrote that at 2:32 a.m. on Nov. 15 he was in the area of the Gilbert Street bridge on foot when he heard yelling. He wrote in his report that he then saw a woman emerge from the west end of the bridge, crying and bleeding from her nose. The man, David Glenn Collins, 25, also came forth, according to the report, and they both described the details of the dispute, where they both allegedly spit at each other, leading to Collins striking out at the woman and reopening a cut on her nose that she had received a few days earlier. According to the criminal complaint,  the two have been together for two years.
