Iowa City Police Blotter Nov. 14: Police Respond to Two Different Stabbings

An Iowa City man was arrested for going armed with intent and causing willful injury, both felonies, after he allegedly stabbed another man on Nov. 13 at 12:16 a.m.

Police say that Matthew Thomas Powell, 20, of 366 S. Clinton Street, Iowa City, allegedly stabbed another man in the left leg following an altercation at 625 E. Burlington Street. The man who was stabbed was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.

A Cedar Rapids man was arrested for going armed with intent and causing willful injury, both felonies, after he allegedly stabbed another man near the Sheraton Inn walkway at 12:50 a.m. on Nov. 14.

Police accuse Sharif Adil Abbas Elkarib, 21, of Cedar Rapids of stabbing a man at 210 S. Dubuque Street following an argument. According to the criminal complaint, a police cruiser was flagged down by the man who was stabbed a t the intersection of Burlington and Dubuque Street. The officers reportedly saw Elkarib walking away from the scene when police arrived. Police say Elkarib was identified by the victim and another witness as the assailant, and that he attempted to hide the knife in a friend's pocket. According to the criminal complaint, the knife was found by police, and man who had been stabbed was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.

A Coralville man was arrested for domestic abuse after he allegedly attacked his wife when she wore a dress when he did not want her to wear a dress.

Police say they responded to the 2200 BLOCK of Oakleaf Street in Coralville on Nov. 13 at 11:00 a.m. for a domestic dispute. There they determined that Eung Nam Kang, 37, had attacked his wife after an argument about her wearing a dress. Police say Kang ripped at the dress and when she pushed him away he allegedly punched her in the head and kicked her in the stomach.

Kang was charged with domestic abuse assault without intent causing injury, a serious misdemeanor.
