Iowa City Police Arrest Blotter October 9: Drunk Driver Allegedly Endangers Child Passengers

Keith Andrew Patton, 39, of Iowa City, was charged with child endangerment with no injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, for an offense that allegedly occurred on Oct. 8 at 5:35 p.m. Police say Patton was stopped for speeding at the intersection of Sycamore Street and Lakeside Drive. Police said Patton appeared intoxicated, and had blood-shot, watery eyes and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. Allegedly, in the backseat of the car during the stop was  a 12-year-old girl, Patton's niece, and a the niece's 10-year-old friend, who did not have her seatbelt on.

Marcus Albert Abbot, 25, of Iowa City, was charged with third offense possession of a narcotic substance (marijuana), an aggravated misdemeanor, for an offense that allegedly occurred on Oct. 9 at 2:23 a.m. Police say they received a report Sunday morning of a black male with a large bag of marijuana in his pants in the area of Burlington and Dubuque Streets. The man was described as wearing a red shirt, dark blue jeans, and a grey hat with the words "I Love Haters" on it. After a search by officers, police say they found a person matching this description on the second level of the transportation ramp. According to the criminal complaint, Abbott, the zipper of his pants down, appeared intoxicated and smelled strongly of raw marijuana. A search of his person by officers allegedly revealed a small bag of marijuana in his pocket and a larger bag concealed down his pants. Abbott has two other drug convictions on Aug. 25, 2005 and Sept. 09, 2006.
