Iowa City Man Allegedly Strikes Pregnant Girlfriend in the Stomach

An Iowa City man was charged with felony domestic abuse after he allegedly hit his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach during an argument.

 

An Iowa City man was charged with felony domestic abuse after an argument with his girlfriend allegedly turned physical on Nov. 28.

Curtis Lee Brown, 36, of Iowa City, was charged with third-or-subsequent offense domestic abuse assault, a felony, for the incident which occurred at 2151 Davis St.

According to police, officers were called to the Davis Street location at 11:06 p.m. for the report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, the police met with a woman who told them that her boyfriend, Brown, had assaulted her.

She reportedly told them that he hit her in the face, pulled her hair, and hit her in the stomach even though he allegedly knew she was four months pregnant with their child. She was also holding her 4 year old in her arms at the time, and her 2-year-old child was sitting nearby, she said.

When she tried to call police, Brown allegedly grabbed her phone and ran away.

According to the criminal complaint, Brown also had domestic abuse convictions for domestic assault while displaying a weapon on Nov. 11, 2009 and another domestic abuse offense on Feb. 5, 2011.
