Bank Robbery Suspect Nabbed by Linn County Deputies

The following is a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office: 

On 01-17-14 at approximately 0913 hrs, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a bank robbery that had just occurred at the Solon State Bank in Ely in which a male subject fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. 

A description of the suspect’s vehicle was given to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office which led to Linn County deputies and a Linn County Conservation officer locating the suspect and his vehicle at the intersection of Ivanhoe Rd and Jappa Rd where the suspect was taken into custody. 

According to witnesses, a weapon was not displayed at the bank. The suspects name will be released following further investigation. The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

UPDATE: 

The person arrested for the robbery at the Solon State Bank in Ely has been identified as Robert David Dennis Melton, age 50, of Cedar Rapids.

Melton has been charged with Robbery in the 2nd Degree and remains in the Linn County Jail pending his court appearance.
