If you commit, murder, Iowa City will allow you to go home and await trial as long as you don't have Asperger Syndrome.

This story shows that if you commit murder, you can go home, but if you have Asperger Syndrome and are non-violent, you get a million dollar bond. You also get to wear a stun belt.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A judge says a cancer-stricken 73-year-old man accused of killing his wife in 1997 can leave an Iowa prison and live at his Minnesota home until trial.

Judge Paul Miller ruled Tuesday that John Bloomfield will be on house arrest at his St. Paul, Minn., residence until the July 8 trial.

Bloomfield had been housed at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville, where he was receiving treatment for prostate cancer. He may only have months to live.

His attorney requested Bloomfield's release so he could get better medical care and be more accessible as they prepare their defense.

Prosecutors resisted the request, saying similar treatment had not been afforded to any other murder defendant in recent decades.

Bloomfield is charged in the slaying of 57-year-old Frances Bloomfield.
