OBITUARY: Paul M. Shultz

Paul Shultz, United Methodist clergy, was born to John and Gladys (Falck) Shultz on September 22, 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa on Thursday, January 9, 2014.

Paul graduated from high school in Adel, Iowa, received his bachelors degree at Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, Missouri and then received his Masters of Divinity at Garrett Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.

Paul was a member of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church and began his career serving churches in Bedford and Oakland. He next served the Conference as a Bi-district Field Minister of Cedar Rapids and Dubuque districts. He spent the last 15 years as the Executive Director of the Wesley Foundation at the University of Iowa.

Throughout his ministry, Paul served on many committees including Chair of the Task Force to Reorganize for the United Methodist Conference and at the time of his death Co-Chair of the United Methodist Campus Ministry Association. Paul was a long-time board member of the Family Planning Council of Iowa.

Paul’s immediate family includes son, Miles (Jean Clipperton) Shultz and grandson Arlo of Ann Arbor, Michigan; daughter, Hannah Shultz of Silver Spring, Maryland; son, August Shultz of Iowa City; fiancé, Jana Grienke of Iowa City; mother, Gladys Shultz of Spirit Lake, Iowa; brothers, Fred (Ellen) Shultz of Omaha, Nebraska and Erling (Barbara) Shultz of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and sister, Nancy (Lyle) Trow of Iowa City.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Shultz, and grandparents, Rev. Fred and Helen Shultz, and Rev. Erling and Gudrun Falck.

Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13th at the Wesley Foundation -- 120 N. Dubuque Street, Iowa City. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14th at First United Methodist Church -- 214 E. Jefferson Street, Iowa City.
