OBITUARY: Steven W. Parris

Steven W. Parris, 59, of North Liberty, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Lensing’s Oak Hill -- 210 Holiday Road, Coralville, with Alecia Williams Officiating. Burial will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be Thursday from 11-1 p.m. at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, the Steven Parris Memorial Fund has been established.

Steve was born on August 16, 1954 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Jessie Parris and Bernice (Carothers) Nassen. He was a 1972 graduate of Mason City High School and NIACC. He later attended the University of Iowa -- where he majored in History. After high school, he joined the Navy and served during the Vietnam War. On November 17, 1990, he married Natasha Boerhave in Clear Lake, Iowa. Steve was employed as a Computer Technician at the University of Iowa for 6 years before retiring. 

Steven was a charismatic person who lit up the room and could make anyone feel welcomed. He loved talking about current affairs and history. Steven was a prolific reader and especially loved Stephen King. He loved sports, especially the New York Yankees, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed playing golf. Steven was an avid movie buff and especially loved watching movies with Natasha. 

Survivors include his wife Natasha of North Liberty; his son Ben and his two daughters Kaylee Rae & Alexa Cruz of Clear Lake, Iowa; father-in-law, Dale Boerhave of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Scott Boerhave of North Liberty; and sister-in-law, Tanya Boerhave of Osceola, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
