OBITUARY: Pauline Marie Wright

Pauline Marie Wright, 96, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully at the Oaknoll Healthcare Center on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 7th at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Gary Beckman officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service -- 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City -- where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fort Madison. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Pauline Wright Memorial Fund.

Pauline was born on April 26, 1918 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Mary Ann (Nuebel) Hermes. She grew up in Fort Madison, graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1936 and later the Mercy School of Nursing in Burlington in 1940. Shortly thereafter, Pauline went to the Panama Canal Zone where she worked as a nurse for a number of years. She returned to Fort Madison and later they moved to Iowa City where she earned her BSN from the University of Iowa School of Nursing. Pauline retired after 26 years as a nursing administrator at Hospital School and the University of Iowa Hospital.

Pauline was a warm and loving mother and grandma who had many interests and hobbies. She loved animals, enjoyed crocheting, traveling, collecting Toby jugs, and spending time with her family. She also was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Altar & Rosary Society, Pilot Club, Senior Center Eldercraft Shop Volunteer, Old Capitol Museum Volunteer and former Secretary-Treasurer for the Food Chain Project. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her two sons: David M. Wright (Kay) of Iowa City, and Michael B. Wright (Barbara) of Cumming, Georgia; granddaughter, Cheri Sudbay (John) of Lewisville, Texas and their sons Jason Wright and John Thomas “JT” Sudbay; great-great-grandson, Jason Wayne Wright; step-grandson, Brian Evans (Hope) of Carollton, Texas, and their children Cheyanne and Skyler Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Helen Hermes and two brothers, Ralph and Walter.
