Mary Jo Fitzpatrick, 66, crossed over peacefully at her home, Monday, July 7th, 2014 after spending the day with her loving family. Before she passed, she commented that the cancer was gone and her dad was with her -- her passing came seven years to the day following his.

Memorial contributions in her honor can be made to Miracles in Motion of Swisher, Iowa or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County (P.O. Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52244).

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, July 14th at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, with entombment in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be Sunday, July 13th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the B.J. Meyer Sons Funeral Home (5864 Bridgetown Road, Cincinnati).

Mary Jo is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Kerry Fitzpatrick; children: Kelly Fitzpatrick, Kyle (Leslie) Fitzpatrick, Kristi (Troy) Fitzpatrick, and Ryan Fitzpatrick; grandchildren: Mikey, Mitchell, Emily, Skye, Julia, Veda, Fisher, Heather, Mallory, Skylar, Michael and Anna. She is also survived by her beloved mother, LaVerne Stautberg; brothers, Bill (Paula) Stautberg, Bob (Teri) Stautberg, Jim (Sue) Stautberg, and Paul (Shelagh) Stautberg; sister-in-law Kathy Stautberg; and sisters, Carol (Scott) Rush and Julie (Tom) Holtmeier.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Stautberg; brother, Jerry Stautberg; and nephew, Benjamin Holtmeier.

She was a wonderful aunt and great aunt to many.

Mary Jo was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Iowa City during the summer of 1985. She loved being a teaching associate at Ernest Horn Elementary for 21 years -- anyone who knew her knew that spending her life with children was her true passion. She proudly mentored a child in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Mary Jo enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, spending time with her family and anything chocolate.

She will always be our inspiration to make our own sunshine.
