Mary E. Greer, 92, of Briarwood Health Care Center, Iowa City, died on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe and her oldest daughter Kate.
She is survived by her three children, Michael and his wife Judy, Sarah and her husband Art, Steve and his wife Kami; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mary moved to Iowa City from Tyndall, South Dakota, in 1964 after her husband died.
Mary was a woman dedicated to knowledge, who motivated her children to appreciate education. She had a passion to read everything she could get her hands on. Because of her love of books, working at the University of Iowa’s Main Library for over twenty-five years was the best possible career for her. She enjoyed mentoring numerous students who worked for her at the library while they attended college. She always said that the students kept her young.
There will be no visitation. Mary has donated her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program for medical research.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Newman Center in Iowa City at a later date.
