Mary Anne Kiefer, 84, lifelong Iowa City resident, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
A Memorial Mass will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Father John Spiegel will officiate. The family will greet friends Sunday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. -- with a parish wake service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or an organization of one’s choice.
Mary Anne was born October 14, 1929 in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Serup) Sladek. She grew up in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School. Mary Anne married Richard Kiefer in a joint ceremony with his brother and her friend, Donald and Norma Kiefer, on July 18, 1950 in Riverside, Iowa.
She is survived by her children: Joe Kiefer (Debbi) of Houston, Texas, Julie Kiefer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Emily Shultz (Dave) of Iowa City, and Bill Kiefer (Julie) of Johnston, Iowa; her grandchildren: Pamela Moore, Carolyn Kiefer, Mark Kiefer, Alex Lobodiak, Sam Lobodiak, Chris Shultz, Cory Shultz (Nino), Lauren Kiefer, Lucas Kiefer, and Katie Saf; a brother, Paul Sladek of Hills, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Park of Iowa City.
Mary Anne was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Richard, a brother Robert and a sister Margaret Roesel.
