OBITUARY: Marguerite Waalkes Limoseth

Marguerite Waalkes Limoseth, 105, of Iowa City, departed this life Thursday, May 29th, 2014. She passed peacefully at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville, Iowa.

A visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 2nd. Funeral services will be held at the Church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Marguerite was born on June 17, 1908 in Boscobel, Wisconsin -- the daughter of Rev. Frederick Waalkes and Barbara Loetscher Waalkes. A graduate of Dubuque University in Dubuque, Iowa, Marguerite was a devoted teacher her entire life. She began her career in a country school house in 1926. She moved to Ackley, Iowa to teach in 1935 -- teaching there through 1950. She then moved to Iowa City, finishing her professional career in the Iowa City public school system.

Throughout her career, she continued her professional education in the summers and traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe.

Soon after retirement, Marguerite was united in marriage in 1977 to Dr. Orlando B. (O.B.) Limoseth. They both continued to live in Iowa City. Marguerite was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church on Rochester Avenue in Iowa City for many years.

Marguerite is survived by one niece, Dorthy Ruth (Waalkes) Vis of Rushmore, Minnesota; one niece-in-law, Marilyn Meyer Harken of Camdenton, Missouri; six great-nieces and three great-nephews -- but many knew her best as "Aunt Marge".

She was proceeded in death by her husband O.B. Limoseth, parents Fredrick and Barbara, three brothers: John, Carl and Fred Waalkes, her sister Grace Waalkes Harken, her nephew Ronald Harken, niece Janette Harken Welin and great-niece, Kristen Welin Osborn.

Memorials can be made in memory of Marguerite to the First Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
