OBITUARY: Louise H. Schropp

Louise H. Schropp, 82, longtime Oxford area resident died peacefully surrounded by the family that she loved on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014.

Louise was born October 16, 1931 in Iowa City, the daughter of Francis and Margaret Duffy Kinney. She was a graduate of Oxford High School. On August 4, 1953, Louise married Kenneth “Fritz” Schropp at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford.

Louise and Fritz farmed in the Oxford area for many years. She loved being a farm wife, raising chickens and pigs. When Louise married Fritz her dowry was ten sheep from her father. Louise treasured being a stay at home mom during that time. In 1975, Louise was employed with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services with the State of Iowa — retiring in 1997.

Louise was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Altar & Rosary Society, the National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Birthday Club. Most important to Louise was her family. As her siblings passed Louise became the second mom to many nieces and nephews. She loved the traditions of Christmas and other holidays and wanted them passed on through the generations. Louise loved her chocolate and was famous for her homemade noodles.

Louise is survived by her loving children: Janice Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Randy (Cheryl) Schropp of Iowa City, Jayne (Scott) Brumwell of Solon and Mike (Stacey) Schropp of Tiffin; thirteen grandchildren, Toby, Stephanie and Tyler Thompson, Elijah Beck, Isaac, Elizabeth and Abraham Schropp, Hannah (Jason) Grimm, Jenni and A.J. Brumwell and Logan, Carter, Aiden Schropp; three great-grandchildren, MacKenna and Bella Thompson and Elliot Grimm.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fritz in 2011, her granddaughter Candace
Marie Thompson and twelve brothers and sisters.

A memorial fund has been established.
