OBITUARY: Lola "Sheryl" Cook

Sheryl Cook, 75, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. 

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service -- 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheryl Cook Memorial Fund.

Lola “Sheryl” Cook was born on July 23, 1938 in Greenfield, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Shirley (Ayers) Acker. She grew up in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School. On November 10, 1971, Sheryl married Howard Cook in Iowa City. 

Sheryl worked in Food Service for the Iowa City Community School District for over 25 years before retiring in 2008. She also currently worked part-time at the Iowa City VFW Post #3949. Sheryl was a 45 year member of the Eagles Auxillary, where she served as Past State President. She was also very active in the VFW Auxillary for a number of years, serving as Past District President. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include her husband Howard of Iowa City; three sons: Tim of Des Moines, David of Bardstown, Kentucky and Donald of Irvine, Kentucky; a brother Vere Acker of Greenfield, Iowa; and seven grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Keith Acker.
