OBITUARY: Jeanette May Christner

Jeanette May Christner, 90, died Tuesday, July 15th at Mercy Hospital surrounded by family.

Friends are welcome to join the family at a Garden Party at Jeanette’s home Sunday, July 20th from 1 to 3 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 10th at 2 p.m. at First Mennonite Church with Pastors Bob and Mag Richer Smith officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Mennonite Church, the Mennonite Mission Board or the Mennonite Central Committee.

Jeanette was born on September 9, 1923 in Wayland, the daughter of Lester and Lena Rich Krabill. On January 1, 1948, Jeanette married Truman Christner in Washington, Iowa.

Jeanette was a member of First Mennonite Church and the Christian Women’s Club. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, the Crowded Closet and World Marketplace. Jeanette loved to do needlework, embroidery, garden and cook -- especially applesauce and apple butter, from her own trees.

Jeanette is survived by her five children: Anthony (Dianne) Christner, Brenda Christner and Eric Christner, all of Iowa City, Cheryl Christner (Timothy White) of New Boston, New Hampshire and Douglas (Karen) Christner of Coralville; ten grandchildren: Peter, Alissa, Hattie, Willis, Breeze, Beth, Allison, Lena, Ryan and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Kelli, Abbey, Dade, Kinder, Oren and Ada May; and one sister, Joanna McCreedy of Denver, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter Felicia; and three siblings, Vincent, Milburn and Evelyn Tate.
