OBITUARY: Jack Kline Hixon

Jack Kline Hixon, 82, died Thursday June 19, 2014 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24th at Nichols Christian Church in Nichols with Rev. Corrine Welsch officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Nichols Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.

Jack was born on June 9, 1932 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Charles Leon and Emma Olive Kline Hixon. He was a 1952 graduate of West Liberty High School and served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan from 1952 to 1956. On February 21, 1963, Jack married Charlene Nichols in Nichols, Iowa.

Jack was employed for many years at the Veterans Administration Medical Center where he was a cook and warehouseman. He was a friend to all and loved to pull pranks on his co-workers. Following his retirement he drove for Lewis Armored.

Jack was a member of Nichols Christian Church and REACT. He was patriotic, inquisitive with electronics and technology and had a great love for his four legged companions.

Jack is survived by his wife Charlene and three stepsons: Keith M. Meacham of Muscatine, Chris (Diane) Meacham of Nichols and Craig A. Meacham of Iowa City; four grandchildren: Craig B. (Daphne), Sepal (Joshua), Jayne and Andre; and one great- granddaughter, Seraphina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved German Shepherds.
