Carol A. Oblinger, 73, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 unexpectedly at her home.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Lensing’s Oak Hill -- 210 Holiday Road in Coralville. Her family will greet friends Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

On Sunday, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Junction United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction.

Carol was born August 10, 1940 in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth “Anne” (Bonynge) Oblinger. Raised in Grand Junction, Iowa, Carol moved to Iowa City in 1986. She worked in housekeeping at Oaknoll Retirement Residence for 16 years -- retiring in 2005.

She was a member of the Coralville United Methodist Church for many years and more recently, attended First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Carol shared a passion for Hawkeye sports -- especially football.

She is survived by her brothers, Charles Johnson (Carol) of Lewes, Delaware, and Thomas Oblinger of Coralville; nieces, Kristen Ivy (Sean) and Heidi Barker (Sean) -- all of Wichita, Kansas; and great-nieces and nephews, Annabelle, Owen and Griffin.

Her parents and sister-in-law, Zelda Oblinger, preceded her in death.
