Iowa City Obituaries, January 2013

Lensing Funeral Home has been posting obituaries to the site for some time now, but I'm not sure if many people are aware of this. To make this more clear, and in order to share many of the touching obituaries I've read today and this month, I wanted to do a post that gathered all of them together.

So here are the January obituaries as they appeared, in reverse chronological order.

Lifelong Iowa geography lover and analyst Paul Joseph Horick, Jr., 90, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 30th, 2013 at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Anna Marie Urban, 92, entered eternal life on Tuesday, January 29th. Urban was a longtime Avon representative.

Anna Odgaard, 61, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at her home in Iowa City. A great traveler, Kirkwood teacher, and maker of memories.

Elizabeth Marie Hibbeler-Anderson, 82, went home to our Lord, Monday, January 28, 2013.

George A. Lehman, 78, of Iowa City died peacefully at his home on January 24, 2013. George worked as an Electrician with the Traffic Engineering department for the City of Iowa City for 30 years before retiring in 1994.

Charles “Charlie” Lee Steinbeck, 80, died peacefully Thursday, January 24th at the Solon Care Center.

L. Rae Blanchard was born April 7, 1922 to C. W. Daniels and Faye Leone (Johnson) Daniels in Central City, Iowa. She died on January 24, 2013 at age 90.

Donald Donovan, 88, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Windmill Manor following a brief illness.

Charles E. Beaumont, 91, of Westerville, OH and formerly of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 23 following a short illness.

Charlotte R. Maas, 89, of Iowa City died peacefully Sunday, January 27th at the Solon Care Center.

Charles H. “Charlie” Plate, 37, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly Friday, January 18, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City from cancer.

Cory Allen Russell, 34, of Iowa City, passed away in his sleep on Friday, January 18th, 2013. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 22nd at 11:30 a.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.

Mary Ann Lepke Follas, 90, of Iowa City, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

Richard E. Taylor, 89, of Iowa City, died peacefully at home on Monday, January 14, 2013.

Nancy A. Noel, 59, passed away Tuesday, January 15th at Mercy Hospice following a courageous battle with emphysema.

Earl R. Meyer, 93, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa.

Marilyn A. Schintler, 72, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13th at Crestview Nursing and Rehab in West Branch.

Virgil J. Kasper, 82, of Tiffin died peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.

Robert C. Myers, 89, of Tiffin died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Briarwood Care Center in Iowa City.

Melva Eileen Petrak, 93, of Coralville, died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on Friday January 11, 2013, surrounded by her family, under the care of Iowa City Hospice.

Jean M. Richards, 82, died Saturday, January 12th at Mercy Hospice of complications from a massive stroke.

Tim Ahmad, 43, of Iowa City died Friday, January 11, 2013 at his home.

W. John Kasper, 87, of Morse, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at The Solon Nursing Care Center.

Mary M. Kasper, 76, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully at her home on January 3, 2013. Memorial donations may be directed to the family C/O: Dean Kasper 521 S.Center St. Lone Tree, Iowa.

Marguerite “Mag” Eckrich, 94, died peacefully Friday at her home.

Etta Joan Eberhart, 82, of Iowa City and formerly of Pawnee, Oklahoma, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Solon Nursing Care Center.

Lawrence Edward McCabe, 81, longtime Coralville resident died at home Tuesday January 8th, surrounded by his family.

Larry A. Hafner, 60, of Iowa City, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Briarwood Health Care Center, following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Bonnie L. McCune, 58, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly from an apparent heart attack on Monday, December 31st at home.

Magdalene Hergert, 79, of Iowa City passed away on Sunday, January 6th, 2013.

Shuying Guo, 58, died Thursday, January 3rd of injuries incurred in an automobile accident.
