5 Ideas To Spruce Up Your Home and Make it Stand Out Among Spring Real Estate

Whether you want to spruce up your home for fun or for sale, take a look at these five easy tips to update your space.

Spring is coming (hard to believe since it has felt like spring much of this winter). And with it we will see a flooding of new house listings to the market and shoppers eager to get first dibs on a property to call their own. It's a time of year that those of us in the Real Estate business love because it's a welcome burst of activity and energy after a season of minglers and cold weekend open houses. I've mentioned before staging during the holiday season, and the same applies for the spring season--similar concept, different decor! If you're thinking about putting your home on the market this spring, or have already put your home on the market, now is a great time to freshen up your space with a few simple changes:

1. Add a punch of color (green, blue or orange are great accents). Throw pillows and chic vases are easy accents. Dwell Studio for Target offers some inexpensive options.
2. Liven up your outdoor seating area with some ambiance, even if it's still too cold to sit outside! Candles and lanterns on a table look great, and big pieces of pottery--you can even add some faux plants if you want to give it more of a green effect (to be replaced with live ones as soon as the weather permits of course).
3. Change out your shower curtain (or your living room curtains)! You'll be amazed at what a difference it makes.
4. Add some fresh flowers to your kitchen or entryway table--it doesn't have to be much, even a stem or two is pretty.
5. Lighting! Make sure your rooms are bright--add some floor lamps or other lighting if necessary! We recently added a pretty light fixture to our 7th Ave. basement laundry space and it helped to make the space feel more updated and fun--plus it added some color.

Of course it goes without saying to make sure your house has been spring cleaned and de-cluttered before opening the door to potential buyers! First impressions can be lasting impressions!
