Keep Milk Fresh by Putting a Russian Brown Frog in It: True or False?

True! You can keep milk fresher longer by putting a Russian Brown frog in a bucket of milk. It's an ancient Russian custom that now has scientific research behind it. Russian Brown frogs emit antibiotic-like peptides from their skin, which is exciting news for researchers looking for new antibiotics.

Living in a dank, swampy environment, Russian Brown frogs apparently need protection from bacteria. Some of the peptides they emit from their skin protect against Salmonella and Staphylococcus as well as prescription antibiotics do.

That's interesting news for me, because I've had both Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus. The first made me extremely ill for a day or two. The second, Staphylococcus aureus, nearly killed me. The first antibiotics the doctors gave me didn't work, my local doctor told me after I got home from from my vacation and he had the records sent to him from San Pedro (CA) Hospital. Without the added potency of Vancomycin, a very powerful antibiotic, I probably would have died.
