July 8, 2014 ICCSD Board Meeting Update

What surprises will be revealed at Tuesday's board meeting? This is the first meeting that Chris Lynch will preside over as president. Will he be at the meeting or will he surprise us with another remote appearance from a foreign country?

Then there is the district showcase: Herkys on Parade. This is a much better topic than opportunities in German language. Of course, there will be community comments and the consent agenda where $2.4 million will be approved in seconds.

Will anyone mention the fact that we're still buying fertilizer from a Des Moines-based company?

The board meeting will include swearing in the officers (will they re-swear in Lynch or will swearing an oath to the Constitution while in Canada suffice?). Then the naming committee will make a presentation for three (3) elementary schools and a high school (which we don't have the money to build). Then we're still going to discuss public comments guidelines, superintendent directives, Appendix 9 approvals, and attendance area updates. That should pack the house.

And committee reports. Those have become so inaccessible that they approach pay-per-view status. It will certainly be interesting to see how Chris runs the show.

The board meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 9th, at the ICCSD Administration Building at 1725 North Dodge Street, Iowa City.
