Forum Against Drones and Red-Light Cameras 3/28/13, 7-9 p.m., at UI Chemistry Building, Auditorium W290

Public forum against drone surveillance and red-light cameras to be held 7-9 p.m. March 28, 2013, at the University of Iowa Chemistry Building, auditorium W290. Ben Stone, ACLU, to speak.

Big Brother opponents of drones and red-light cameras are hosting a public forum on traffic surveillance:

The Iowa City-based nonprofit citizen group StopBigBrother.Org, the Young Americans for Liberty, the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa, and the College Republicans are holding a public forum in support of the initiative petition to ban traffic surveillance — including drones — in Iowa City.

The event will feature keynote addresses by Ben Stone, Executive Director of ACLU of Iowa, and Gary Biller, President of the National Motorists Association, followed up by a panel discussion and a public forum on the topic of traffic surveillance and the associated public safety, socio-economic, judicial and civil liberties issues. Iowa Senator Brad Zaun is scheduled to address the forum as well.

Members of the public supportive of the initiative will have the opportunity to add their signature to the petition throughout the event. Two thousand and five hundred signatures are required by April 1st for the petition to be considered for adoption by the Iowa City Council or to go to a public vote in November.

The forum will take place on March 28th, from 7 to 9pm, at the University of Iowa's Chemistry Building, auditorium W290:

Parking will be available across the street from both sides of the Chemistry Building at North Hall Parking Ramp and IMU Parking Ramp.

Martha Hampel, who is also an opponent of the new Johnson County Jail, and Aleksey Gurtovoy are spearheading the anti-jail, anti-red light cameras, and anti-drone movement in Iowa City and Johnson County.
