A Father's Voice, But Not Ours, Tells Us to Clean up Our Rooms & to Go to Bed

We were playing, laughing, and cavorting in my next youngest sister's room just off of the backstairs next to my mother's room upstairs. I assume my parents were home, since it was mid-evening, but we weren't aware of their presence. Our parents had separate bedrooms. Dad's was downstairs at the base of the back staircase and also served as his study.

Giggling, we were talking amongst ourselves when we heard a deep bass voice tell us firmly, "Clean up your room. Go to bed." He repeated himself in a monotone.

Dad's voice was a clear tenor. This voice was a deep bass, so we knew it wasn't Dad's.

Good advice hardly seemed like a threat, so we weren't as scared as we could have been, but we certainly weren't happy about the voice, either. It was an intrusion into our good time, but we didn't clean up Kristin's room, our own, or go to bed.

If our parents had told us to, we probably would have, but they didn't. I don't remember what we did after that, but the voice certainly spoiled the party.
