OBITUARY: Mary F. Kennedy

Mary F. Kennedy, 87, of Iowa City, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Father John Spiegel will officiate. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be Thursday, July 25 in St. Joseph Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials to Iowa City Hospice.

Mary was born July 11, 1926 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver and Alice (Appel) Terry. Growing up and graduating from high school in Muscatine, Mary attended and later graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She married Paul “Tom” Kennedy June 5, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. She worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for 44 years -– retiring from Mercy in 1991.

She and Tom were long-time members of St. Mary’s Church.

Survivors include her husband Tom; sons, Pat Kennedy (Margarita) and Tim Kennedy -- all of Iowa City and Joe Kennedy (Peggy) of Gilbert, Arizona; daughters, Mary Kathryn Albaugh (Rick) of Gilbert, Arizona, Jane Kennedy of China and Kitty Lake of Iowa City; eleven grandchildre; four great-grandchildren; brother Bill Terry of Iowa City; sisters, Katie Kopp of Illinois, Mabel Terry of Muscatine and Delores Vance of Rochelle, Illinois.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Christine Ramer, a brother Edwin and a sister Marge Terry.
