OBITUARY: Magdalen "Mag" B. Kasper

Magdalen "Mag" B. Kasper, 89, of Morse, died peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Solon Nursing & Rehab Center.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A rosary will begin at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Reverend James Vrba will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City.

Mag was born February 1, 1925 in Iowa City, the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Greazel) Lenoch. Growing up in Iowa City, she graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Mag later received her registered nurse degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Iowa City in 1946. On February 12, 1947, she married W. John Kasper at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Mag was a nurse at Mercy Hospital, provided nursing care for Iowa City physicians — as well as private home health care. She was a precinct worker for many years  in Johnson County elections. Mag actively served others in her many pursuits — the farm, her garden, her family and her church. Mag and John always enjoyed their trips to the North Woods and had wintered in Port Aransas, Texas for several years. Her family lovingly remembers her as the “Energizer Bunny.” She made the greatest pancakes but overcooked the steaks.

Mag is survived by her children, Linda Johnson (Dwayne “Jay”) of Iowa City, Barbara Kruzic of Nevada, Iowa, Patricia Spevacek (Gary) of Iowa City and Ed Kasper (Lisa) of Roland, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Amanda, Cole, Jason, Jacob, Rachel, Amy, Tamara, Travis, Brian, Mike and Katie; eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her sister, Rita Krall of Iowa City; brother, John Lenoch (Sophia) of Iowa City; sisters-in-law, Pat Lenoch of Iowa City and Kathryne Lenoch of Madison, Wisconsin.

Her parents; her husband John; brothers, Reverend Francis Lenoch, Leo Lenoch and Peter Lenoch; a nephew, Steve Lenoch; and a niece, Ann Lenoch died before her.

Memorials may be directed to the Morse Community Club, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon or the Mercy Foundation — The Legacy Award for Outstanding Nursing Care.
