OBITUARY: Lynnel Kay Thomas

Lynnel Kay Thomas, 44, of North Liberty, passed away on Sunday, April 13 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a short battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 17th at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16th at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Lynnel was born on July 2, 1969 in Iowa City, the daughter of Darryl and Sandra (Buline) Thomas. She grew up in Lone Tree, graduated from Lone Tree High School and later went on to earn her AA degree from Kirkwood Community College. Lynnel started her career at Frohwein and most recently worked as a Facilities Manager for General Dynamics. 

Lynnel enjoyed her work and to many was known to be a workaholic. In her free time, she liked to travel, bowl, and play the slots. She was also a member of IFMA (International Facilities Management Association). Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her parents Darryl and Sandy Thomas of Lone Tree; her brother Todd and his wife Melissa and their children Caleb and Jarron, all of Kalona; her sister Wynnette and her husband Tony and their children Eli and Stella, all of Riverside; her grandmother Shirley Buline of Lone Tree; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lynnel was preceded in death by her grandparents: Archie Buline, and Fred and Marcella Thomas; and her beloved cat, Friday.
