School’s Out Winter Events for Children

School's Out Winter Break Events for Kids at the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St.

It’s frosty fun time at the Library, so come on down when school is out. There are plenty of special programs guaranteed to give you and your children warm fuzzies.

Gingerbread Fun
When: 10:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, Dec. 20; ICPL Meeting Room A
Kids are invited to drop in and decorate gingerbread cookies and make seasonal crafts.

Book Babies with Karen
When: 10:30-11 a.m. and 1:30-2 p.m. every Friday in the Storytime Room
Rhymes, fingerplays, songs and short stories designed to stimulate your infant's language development; for babies 6 months to 18 months old. We ask that there be a lap for every baby. Contact Email: Child1@icpl.org.

Guys Read Book Club
When: Noon-1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 in the Library’s Second Floor Meeting Room E
Our mission: Matching ICPL guys with the appropriate books (and other readable things) in a fun, guys-only environment. With pizza. Aimed at guys in Grades 5-8. Guys Read, a literacy initiative founded by children's author Jon Scieszka, is designed to draw attention to boys' literacy and to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers. Family Storytimes
When: 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22; 2-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23; 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29; 2-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30; ICPL Storytime Room
Designed for the whole family and presented at a time convenient for most working parents. Storytime includes both shorter and longer stories combined with action games and activities. Family Storytime is recommended for all ages, but parents are asked to sit with their younger children.

Library Holiday Hours
On Christmas Eve, the Library is OPEN 10-4. The Library is closed in honor of the Christmas holiday on Christmas Day. The Library's website and catalog can be accessed 24 hours a day at www.icpl.org; Online collections are available at www.icpl.org/emedia.

Preschool Storytimes
When: 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26; Wednesday, Jan. 2; ICPL Storytime Room
A preschool-age oriented program for preschoolers where longer stories and books are shared with fewer activities. Preschool Storytime is recommended for children who are 3, 4 or 5 years old.

Gunny the Clown
When: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27; ICPL Meeting Room A
Gunny will tickle your funny bone with his silly tricks in Meeting Room A.

Funky Blues Music Jam
When: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28; ICPL Meeting Room A
Bring the whole family and get your groove on with the music of Kevin B. F. Burt in Room A.

Toddler Storytimes
When: 10:30-11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, ICPL Storytime Room
Specifically planned for toddlers or young preschoolers. The same program is performed Mondays and Tuesdays each week. Ideal for young children with short attention spans who need short stories, fingerplays and action rhymes.

Library Holiday Hours
The Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The Library is closed on New Year’s Day.

Music Together with Preucil School of Music
When: 10:30-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3; ICPL Meeting Room A
Swing to the music and sway to the beat. A preschool-age oriented program for children who are 3, 4 or 5 years old.

Book Babies - Music Together

When:  10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5; ICPL Meeting Room A
