The actual amount of taxes paid on a $100,000 owner-occupied residential property is $24.59 or $24.60, depending on whom you ask. However, county treasurer Tom Kriz said that figure might be giving voters the wrong idea about how much extra they’ll actually be paying should the referendum pass.

“It’s a little misleading,” Kriz said, noting most homes in Johnson County are not assessed at $100,000. “My best recollection is it’s in the $185,000 bracket. $100,000 is a really nice figure to use, but there aren’t very many $100,000 homes (in Johnson County). Say the average is $200,000, it’s really $50 you’d be paying.”
