David Perlmutter, professor and director of the UI journalism school, said Tuesday that he had yet to meet with Bloom since his return. Although Bloom’s article touched a nerve with colleagues and many other Iowans last fall — fellow journalism professors, UI President Sally Mason and Gov. Terry Branstad among them — Perlmutter said the professor’s presence has not affected the school heading into the fall semester, and he has not received any recent inquiries or complaints from students or parents about Bloom’s continued position on the faculty.

“I think we’re all professionals,” Perlmutter said. “It’s a work place; we’re here to do our work, opinions aside. Part of being a professor or journalist, you put aside your personal opinions and just do your work. I assume everyone will feel the same way.”
