Vanessa Miller of the Gazette writes that one of the men originally charged in a 2009 murder of an Iowa City landlord had his sentencing delayed until after one of his co-defendants has his trial in September, likely so he can testify against him.

Mark Carlson of KCRG writes that drunk driving arrests in the area are down so far this year for drivers under the age of 21.

I am sad to hear of the death of Iowa City artist Tom Wegman. I did a story on him when I was working at the Gazette and one of his decorated ornaments was featured on the White House Christmas tree. The Wegmans were a pleasure to talk to on my visit, and the photo that they ran with the story is one of my favorite photos I've taken. Condolences to his family and friends.

Iowa City police have said they suspect Versypt, a landlord with units in the Broadway Condominiums in south Iowa City, was killed during an attempted robbery on Oct. 8, 2009, while checking in on his units.

Versypt, according to police, died after being shot in his right hand and in his head, according to trial information.

According to trial information, Thompson admitted that he knew Marshall and another man killed Versypt, and he also admitted to helping Marshall dispose of clothing worn the day of the shooting.
