City High Principal John Bacon said spending a day serving the area is a symbolic way to show their gratitude for an outstanding K-12 education.

“This is an opportunity for them to give back to the community,” Bacon said.

Students could choose from nearly 30 volunteer opportunities — including visiting elementary school students, landscaping and working at nonprofit organizations.

“There really was something for everyone,” Bacon said.
