Iowa City officials hope to minimize controversial cuts to the area’s paratransit service, but elected leaders and administrators appear puzzled as to how to do that.The Iowa City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a contract with Johnson County for SEATS transit service. Following a county funding decrease, the plan would involve cutting Sunday service and a 50 percent fare subsidy from the city.A majority of the council initially appeared poised to vote “no” in objection to those cuts. Instead, the council approved the agreement but also directed city staff to work on a way to at least partially avoid those cuts.A handful of SEATS users spoke to the council, all criticizing the fare hike and Sunday cut.
