Iowa City Based National Guard Unit to Celebrate Return Home Monday

110 members of an Iowa City based National Guard unit will be honored at a ceremony at the Coralville Marriott Conference Center at noon Monday.

An Iowa City based Iowa Army National Guard unit mobilized as part of the war in Afghanistan, will be honored in a ceremony in Coralville Monday, marking their return home.

The ceremony, held at noon at the Coralville Marriott Conference Center, 300 E. 9th St, will honor 110 soldiers from the returning unit.

The unit comes from Company B. Along with two other units being honored this week, the Iowa City unit arrived in Afghanistan in November 2010. There the soldiers provided lethal and nonlethal support to Afghan National Army and Police units, and assistance in humanitarian relief initiatives, according to a press release from the Iowa National Guard.
