After more than 60 years of shuttling passengers from Iowa City to Des Moines, Omaha, Chicago and beyond, Greyhound Lines Inc. will no longer provide bus service locally, effective today.

To fill the gap, Iowa-based Burlington Trailways — which also operates buses out of Iowa City’s 170 E. Court St. terminal — will pick up all closing Greyhound routes, officials said Tuesday.

Iowa City’s Greyhound/Trailways owner operator Eugene Hibbs said customers should not see any big changes in local service or ticket pricing other than additional Trailways buses at the bus stop and the removal of the Greyhound logo from the building.
