Get Out: Nationally Emerging Rapper, Chinese Folk Musicians, Play Examines Bosnian Tragedies

1. Kid Ink

Where/When: , 211 Iowa Avenue on Saturday, Feb. 25, doors open at 8 p.m. and show starts at 9 p.m. and lasts until midnight.

Description: Kid Ink is an up-and-coming rapper from Los Angeles who has been making a name for himself on the national scene. Come see what all the hype is about.

Cost: $15 ticket. This is a 19 and over event.

2. STEM Free Family Night

Where/When: Iowa Children's Museum, 1451 Coral Ridge Avenue, Coralville., Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Description: A family series devoted to problem solving games using science and engineering. The theme of Saturday's event is flossing your teeth. Also features free dental screenings in the party room.

Cost: Free.

 

3. Reading: Author Jennifer Wilson reads from her Memoir

Where/When: , 15 S. Dubuqe St., Iowa City. Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

Description:  Jennifer Wilson, who lives in Des Moines, will read from her memoir, Running Away to Home. In this story, Wilson recounts the taxing but enlightening experience of trying to move with her husband from America to Croatia in an attempt to take a family sabbatical and reconnect with her roots.

Cost: Free

 

4.  Music from the East China Normal University Performing Arts Troupe

Where/When: , 214 East Jefferson Street. The event starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Description: A 27-member performing arts troupe from Shanghai, China, featuring several varities of Chinese folk dance, Sichuan opera, singing, and various instruments including the lute, erhu, flute, and piano.

Cost: Free

 

5. The Toymaker's War, plus discussion

Where/When: Working Group Theatre, 213 N. Gilbert Street. The show will run from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. with a discussion to follow.

Description: The Working Group Theatre presents the 'Toymaker's War.' Set in war torn Bosnia, the story involves an idealistic journalist meeting a young child who has created a reality of her own. It intends to be an examination of the ethics of war and the ethics of journalism.

Speaking of the ethics of journalism, there will be a talkback Friday after the show with journalist, Stephen J. Berry, and Bosnian War survivor, Amir Hadzic.
