Stephen Bloom. Occupy Iowa City. The landfill fire. Few local topics of conversation escaped the jabs doled out at the third-annual Roast This Town on Sunday night.

“Anybody involved with Occupy Iowa City that thinks they did something good, that’s as delusional as the Sycamore Mall still thinking it’ll be around in five years,” said Nathan Timmel, the comedian who hosted the show.

There wasn’t an empty seat in The Mill Restaurant for the Roast, which featured six writers and performers who gave comedic odes about their love/hate — but mostly love — relationships with Iowa City. Organized by Little Village magazine in Iowa City, the event was held in conjunction with the Iowa City Book Festival.
