The project that prompted public outcry over the closing of a popular Iowa City vegetarian restaurant is safe from a possible building moratorium.
Construction has started on a four-story building on the 500 block of East Washington Street and enough progress will have been made to beat a March 20 deadline that could have halted or even killed the project, city officials and the developers said Tuesday.
“With the time and investment we have in it, we look forward to moving forward, and I think people are going to be pleased with the end project,” said Tom Kaut, an investor in project.
