Arrests From Iowa City Bar Fights, Disturbances

Brother's, Union and DC bars find a bit of trouble.

A couple of disruptions over apparently too many drinks in Iowa City bars led to arrests over the past several days.

Police report that on Friday they observed Jose N. Espinal, 45, of Iowa City, being removed by employees from Brother's Bar & Grill on South Dubuque Street. Espinal then went into the Union Bar on East College Street, where employees tried to remove him, according to police reports, but he refused to leave.

He was charged withg public intoxication.

Also on Friday, police arrived at Brother's to find James P. Chapman, 36, being detained on the ground by bar staff. According to a criminal complaint, Chapman, of Lancaster, OH, refused to leave when he was asked. He was charged with public intoxication.

On Sunday at Brother's, police were called when a fight broke out.

When police arrived, they arrested Harold Jonathan Brown, 24, of Cedar Rapids, on a charge of public intoxication. Police said they told him to step back several times but that he had "difficulty understanding simple verbal commands."

On Friday, Iowa City police responded to a fight at DC's bar on South Dubuque Street.

Trenton William Link, 27, of Brandon, SD, was interfering with police conducting an interview in the front of the bar, according to a criminal complaint.

Police say they asked Link to step back several times but he refused. He was placed under arrest for public intoxication, blowing a 0.177, according to the complaint.
