Iowa City fireworks scheduled July 5 as part of Jazz Festival

The City of Iowa City's fireworks have officially become part of the annual Iowa City Jazz Festival line-up, and this year will be held on Friday, July 5 to close the festival's first night with a bang. Literally. The display will be launched at dusk, around 9:45 p.m., from Hubbard Park near the Iowa Memorial Union. Festival attendees and others are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the west lawn of the Pentacrest for the best view, although the display will also be visible from the east side of the Old Capitol building in the Downtown area. There is no charge to attend.

Iowa City and area residents as well as out-of-town visitors are encouraged to plan their holiday weekend around the variety of activities and entertainment that have been scheduled in Downtown Iowa City as part of the Summer of the Arts Jazz Festival, including free live music, great food, and an unmatched spirit of celebration. The Jazz Festival has been named one of the top 10 jazz festivals in the country, featuring a variety of well-known musicians and composers as well as new up-and-coming jazz talent.
