Incredibly, we're *still* waiting for the results of the school facilities workshop

At the recent school facilities community workshop, when participants were asked to evaluate how well different proposals satisfied the district’s criteria—a set of criteria that arguably downplayed the value of preserving older neighborhood schools—results were announced in just thirty minutes.  But when participants were asked which scenarios they themselves preferred, no results were announced.  Nine days later and counting, we have yet to hear how people responded.

When I suggested here that the school district was taking too long to release the results of that second work session, and that the district risked being perceived as intentionally dragging its feet to promote its own agenda, some people thought I was being too cynical.  Now here it is over a week later, with the district offices closed until Monday, and still no results—even though the Facilities Steering Committee is scheduled to meet this coming Wednesday.  The Steering Committee reportedly saw the results days ago, but no one has let the public in on the secret.

One participant complimented the district by likening the community workshop to the Iowa caucuses.  It’s true that the workshop had a caucus-like feel.  At the caucuses, though, you don’t have to wait weeks to find out what people preferred.
