McCallum to focus on housing, Melrose vendors

Iowa City real estate developer Mark McCallum announced his bid for the Iowa City City Council on Monday.

2009 City Council candidate and real estate proprietor Mark McCallum said he's running for the council again this year in hopes of diversifying housing downtown.

"The zoning that is in place leads to these large apartment buildings with units that hold multiple tenants, you don’t see many one to two bedroom apartments being available," McCallum told The Daily Iowan on Monday.

McCallum, Mayor Matt Hayek, and former University of Iowa student Josh Ecklow are all three running for two at-large seats on the council.
