Iowa City Police Sgt. Denise Brotherton said Iowa City has been hit with a rash of catalytic converter thefts in recent weeks. So far, the police department has taken six reports of catalytic converter thefts, but Brotherton said there could be more that haven’t been reported or discovered.

Coralville Police Lt. Shane Kron said two catalytic converters were taken from one location Coralville last weekend.

Brotherton said catalytic converter thefts are not common in this area.

“It’s very brazen and it’s something you don’t see very often,” she said.
