(BLOG) Hopeful of a Bike-Friendly Iowa City Council? Attend Wednesday Night Forum

Find out what projects and policies Iowa City Council candidates support that will help make transportation by bicycle better for people of all ages and skill levels.

Wish you had a better idea of who the most bike-friendly city council candidates were? Find out this week. Think Bicycles of Johnson County is hosting a Iowa City Council Candidate Forum Wednesday, October 26th from 7-9pm in meeting room A of the Iowa City Public Library.

Candidates will be responding to general questions like: Do you believe having more people riding bikes as transportation is a good thing? If you do support increased use of bikes for transportation, what policies and projects might you support to achieve this outcome?

The public is welcome and bicyclists in and around Iowa City are encouraged to attend. If you have specific questions you want addressed, come prepared to write them down and a moderator will read them to the candidates. This is a great opportunity figure out which candidates are most likely to help us achieve the goal of making Iowa City a safer and more suitable place to ride for transportation.

A few questions I hope will be addressed: Do you think bike lanes on Gilbert, Burlington, Riverside are a good idea? Why or why not? Do you think bike lanes might help mitigate the disconnect between central and South-Southeast Iowa City? What will be done to educate bicyclists and motorists about sharing the road?

Are you someone who wants to bike more, but don't feel it's not possible given the current infrastructure? What's it going to take to get you on the road? Even if you don't have questions this will be a great place to meet and talk with other bike-minded people in your community.
