Update: Iowa City FilmScene Hits $75,000 Fundraising Goal

The local nonprofit's all-or-nothing crowdfunding campaign has reached its final destination with time to spare.

Well that went faster than I thought.

With four days left to go, Iowa City FilmScene went on a fundraising blitz today, pushing over the last $15,000 hurdle to reach its $75,000 goal.

The IndieGoGo fundraising campaign was the last touches in part of a $200,000 fundraising campaign needed to finish the theater. While I'm sure they would happily take more if you still wanted to give, this figure is important because it allows them to keep the money that was already pledged before they reached $75,000.

Iowa City FilmScene can see the finish line now. But it needs just a little more help to get there.

The Iowa City nonprofit is trying to use crowdfunding to raise the $75,000 necessary to finish up its theater so it can make its debut in downtown Iowa City this fall.

To raise the money, FilmScene is using crowdfunding site IndieGogo, which requires that a fundraiser hit its fundraising goal in pledges by the end date before any of the money will be rewarded. In this case, if the goal is not met by Sept. 8 at 12:59 a.m. PST, none of the money will be collected by FilmScene.

The good news is there is still time, and donations can be made in exchange for rewards listed on their Indiegogo donation page.

The theater will also be utilized by the University of Iowa's Bijou organization.
