Captured: Hot Glass, Cold Iron Display at the Englert this Month

Media Release

The Englert Theatre's Douglas & Linda Paul Gallery is pleased to welcome Milton Tomlinson's "Captured: Hot Glass, Cold Iron" sculpture exhibit. The gallery will host an opening reception and artist talk on Friday, August 2nd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Tomlinson’s sculpture exhibit celebrates "the freedom to go with the flow, to experiment." says Tomlinson. He creates sculptural compositions through the union of blown and cast glass with reclaimed and forged metals. Hot worked glass, hand-forged organic steel forms, cast iron and reclaimed metals become integrated, non-objective pieces that rely heavily upon post-modern influences.
Tomlinson has displayed his work throughout the country.

Most notably, his sculptures were on display at the prestigious SOFA Chicago show in 2008.

"My work is conceptual, the viewer may recognize objects within the sculpture that resonate and repeat," Tomlinson says of his art. "I create a formal framework, allowing the convergence of light, shadow, reflection, contrast, color, texture, positive and negative space, line and form unify my compositions."

Tomlinson currently lives in Conifer, Colorado with his wife Teresa. He attended Mesa College and later received his MFA from the University of Denver.

"Captured: Hot Glass, Cold Iron" is free and open to the public and runs from August 2nd through September 3rd in the Douglas & Linda Paul Gallery, located on the second floor of The Englert Theatre. The gallery is open Monday through Friday between noon and 6:00 p.m. as well as during select performances. For more information, call (319) 688-2653 or visit englert.org.
