University of Iowa Students Holding Food Drive for Johnson County Crisis Center at First Avenue Hy-Vee Today and Tomorrow

You can donate until 6:00 p.m. Saturday and also stop by on Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon to donate food items to the Johnson County Crisis Center.


Heading to First Avenue Hy-Vee today or tomorrow?

Bring a few extra items from your pantry along, as some University of Iowa students are holding a food drive at both entrances for a few more hours today and from 9 a.m. until noon   on Sunday to benefit the Johnson County Crisis Center Foodbank.

Also: The students are trying to get the Johnson County Crisis Center Facebook page to 1,000 Facebook likes by the end of the weekend, so head on over and give them a like!

The large bin next to University of Iowa Juniors Kristen Loda and Matt Mortell was looking pretty full when I stopped into Hy-Vee this afternoon, as the food drive had been going on since 9 a.m. Saturday, but they would certainly welcome more donations, especially from the list below.

Loda said the teams have been making good process so far.

"In general, people have been really willing to stop and help out," Loda said.

The two are among several classmates organizing and staffing the tables for the food drive as step three in a four-step process to attain a Career Leadership certificate. Loda wanted to thank State Farm for underwriting the food drive and Hy-Vee for allowing the tables in the store.

8. Baby Food and Formula

9. Toilet Paper

10. Laundry Detergent
