Part of Donations from Downtown Iowa City Race Fundraiser to Benefit Colorado Flood Victims

Race organizers plan to collect additional donations on race day for Colorado flood recovery.

From the Iowa City Downtown District

In light of recent flooding devastating parts of Colorado, including Boulder County, organizers of the Iowa City Downtown Race Series will be collecting additional donations at this weekend's race to help with the recovery. What has turned into a 100-year flood this week in and around Boulder has taken several lives, while others remain missing, and left thousands homeless or with significant cleanup. The Downtown Boulder Race Series inspired Iowa City's new event, which is raising money for the University of Iowa Dance Marathon and Young Life of Iowa City.  The first of Iowa City's three races -- the Marketplace Stampede 3K -- will begin at 3:33 p.m. Sunday. Race organizers plan to collect additional donations on race day for Colorado flood recovery. The money will be sent to the American Red Cross of Colorado. The cost to participate in all three races is $45 or $15 per race. Children 12 and under race for free.

  • Race day registration is available for $5 extra at the race from1:30-3:00 p.m.
  •  The second race -- the Presidential Mile -- is set for 3:33 p.m. Oct. 6. The third race -- the Iowa Avenue 2K -- is set for 3:33 p.m. Oct. 27.
