Calling All Knitters: the Tree Huggers Shall Return

The Iowa City Downtown District and is once again calling all knitters to volunteer for the 2013 Tree Huggers Project sponsored by Total Tree Care of Iowa City. The project calls for knitting sweaters for 135 trees in the Downtown and Northside Marketplace. 

This year sign up is only available online at signupgenius.com. You must sign up online to participate and get your tree assignment and instructions.

• The yarn will be available to pick up at Home Ec Workshop, located at 207 N. Linn Street, any time after September 30th.
• Knitters participating in this event need to supply their own size 15 needle available for purchase at a discount at Home Ec. 
• You may register as an individual knitter or as a group. Groups can be made up of any number of knitters. 
• Your "sweater" should be completed by October 25th and dropped off at Home Ec.

As you may imagine, "Yarn Bombing" the entire Downtown and Northside is a costly endeavor. Help us continue the Tree Huggers project that adds so much color and vibrancy to the winter landscape with colorful knit scarves adorning trees by donating towards the cost of the yarn at downtowniowacity.com, suggested donation is $30.00. 

Installation is planned for Sunday, November 3rd at noon. The tree huggers will stay up until March 2014. At that time, some will be auctioned off with proceeds going to charity or you may purchase your own tree hugger.
